The course is for experienced GRASS/QGIS and GIS users from universities, public administrations and businesses and gives an introduction to the (geo)statistical software R in combination with GRASS and Quantum GIS. R is a language and environment for (geo)statistical calculations. It provides a large amount of spatial statistical methods and interfaces to GIS.
Instructor is Otto Dassau. He has been active in the GRASS and QGIS project for many years and uses R in his projects. For more than 10 years he conducts regular training courses and workshops on free open source GIS applications (see menu references).

Topics of the 1-day training
- Overview and features of R in combination with GRASS and Quantum GIS
- Requirements and installation, integration of R packages
- Import and export of spatial data and visualization
- Introduction to spatial statistical analysis using R and GRASS (spgrass6)
- Introduction to spatial statistical analysis using R and Quantum GIS (QGIS-R plugins)
Exercise material
For this training will be provided extensive training data and the data matched exercise script.
Required skills
Knowledge of GRASS and Quantum GIS. Optimally, the visit of the GRASS (I) Introduction or the Quantum GIS (I) Introduction.
Required skills
Basic knowledge of databases, Quantum GIS and GRASS is an advantage.
