The course is for experienced GRASS and GIS users from universities, public administrations and enterprises and provides based on PyWPS an insight into the interoperability of the OGC service WPS (Web Processing Service) with GRASS GIS, Quantum GIS, and other free GIS applications.
Instructor is Jachym Cepicky. He has been active for many years in the GRASS GIS project, developed numerous GRASS modules and is the developer of PyWPS. PyWPS is an implementation of Web Processing Service of the Open Geospatial Consortium in the programming language Python.

With PyWPS it is possible to provide functions of geographic information systems and other spatial software available on the Internet. The functionality of PyWPS with additional packages can be compared with ArcGIS Serverfrom ESRI.
Topics of the 2-day course
- Installation and configuration of dependent programs
- Installing PyWPS
- Configuring PyWPS
- Linking PyWPS with external software, such as:
- GDAL & PROJ.4
- UMN Mapserver
- Implementation of a WPS client, for example via OpenLayers or Quantum GIS
Exercise material
For this training we provide data and a data matched exercise script.
Required skills
Basic knowledge in the configuration of Apache web server, in Python and JavaScript and working with GRASS GIS, Quantum GIS and/or other open source GIS applications is an advantage.

Costs
€ 850 + VAT - This includes all course materials, beverages and snacks, and lunch. Students, apprentices and unemployed people can participate at reduced rates, if the course is not fully booked.
