The course is for GIS users from universities, public administrations and companies, designed to teach basic principles of using PostGIS, the spatial extension of PostgreSQL. A focus lies on the interoperability with Quantum GIS and GRASS.
Instructor is Otto Dassau. He has been active in the GRASS and QGIS project for many years and uses PostgreSQL/PostGIS in his projects. For more than 10 years he conducts regular training courses and workshops on free open source GIS applications (see menu references).

- Overview and functionality of PostgreSQL/PostGIS
- Installation and configuration of PostgreSQL/PostGIS
- Introduction to the administration with psql, pgAdmin and phpPgAdmin
- Data import and export, data backup
- Introducing PostGIS functions
- Data exchange with GRASS
- Working with PostGIS plugins in Quantum GIS
Exercise material
For this training we provide training data and a data matched exercise script.
Required skills
Basic knowledge of GRASS and QGIS. Visit of GRASS (I) or Quantum GIS (I) introduction is an advantage. Schedules (more on request)

Costs
€ 520 + VAT - This includes all course materials, beverages and snacks, and lunch. Students, apprentices and unemployed people can participate at reduced rates, if the course is not fully booked.
