The GRASS beginners course is for GIS users and interested persons from universities, public administrations and businesses. The training teaches basic principles of using the free open source GIS GRASS. Part of this training is also an introduction in the QGIS GRASS Plugin.
Instructor is Otto Dassau. He has been active for many years in the GRASS, the QGIS project and the german FOSSGIS e.V.. For more than 10 years he conducts regular training courses and workshops on GRASS, Quantum GIS and other open source GIS applications (see menu references).

Topics of the 3-day training
- Overview and functionalities of GRASS and QGIS
- Installation, design and structure of GRASS and QGIS
- Introduction to GRASS GUIs including QGIS GRASS Plugin
- Development of various project environments (locations)
- Data integration, geo-referenced data and geo-referencing
- Introduction to the analysis of vector and raster data
- Editing attribute and geometry data, including databases
- Identification of possibilities for image processing
- Creating simple scripts, batch processing
- Data Output and Visualization
Exercise material
For this training, participants receive extensive training data, a practice script and a current, third edition of the GRASS GIS Approach by Neteler/Mitasova to deepen the knowledge after the course. In addition, each participant receives a certificate of participation upon successful completion.
Required skills
Basic knowledge of geographic information systems are an advantage.

Costs
€ 800 + VAT - This includes all course materials, beverages and snacks, and lunch. Students, apprentices and unemployed people can participate at reduced rates, if the course is not fully booked.
Special discount
If you decide to attend the courses GRASS GIS I and II, you pay only 1400 € + VAT instead of 1500 € + VAT and save 100 euros.
